WDC opens diamonds sales office in Tokyo
January 2000
RAMAT GAN, ISRAEL - In January 2000 the doors of the Waldman Diamond Japan Co. office opened. The Tokyo office is WDC's first permanent foothold in the Far Eastern market. Alexander Waldman, the company's principal, founded WDC in 1978 in New York.
The WDC Tokyo office is headed by Mr. Toru Takagi, a veteran Japanese diamond dealer from Tokyo. The new office is located at:
Waldman Diamond Japan Co. Ltd.
3-Chome 31-4, Park Grandy Building
5th Floor, #501
Tokyo, Japan
Tel: 03 5817 0292 5
"While it has not been our original intention to begin exactly in January 2000, we think that in this particular case, the timing proves to be perfect." said Gal Vered, who has been the driving force behind the Tokyo office planning and preparation. Vered, who spent most of his childhood and adolescence in Japan and is fluent in the Japanese language, said WDC had "left nothing to chance to make the Tokyo office opening a success from the start." Vered will serve as the liaison to the Tokyo office, as he has a thorough understanding of the Japanese diamond market's diamond needs.
"We've been active in Japan for the past two years, and have increased our activities steadily ever since," Alexander Waldman noted. "In fact, we began our involvement in Japan at the height of the Asian crisis, while many foreign diamond companies were pulling out of the Japanese and other Far Eastern markets."
Waldman said his company had worked hard at gaining name recognition in Japan, a prerogative for success in Japan's business culture. "In Israel, our office has become a hub of activity for Japanese buyers, what is popularly called 'a home away from home.' We will continue to offer that service to those buyers who prefer to come to us, as Gal Vered and the other members of our team will continue to serve our Japanese and other Far Eastern clients here in the Ramat Gan office." |
